Submental Liposculpture

WHAT IS SUBMENTAL LIPOSCULPTURE?

Submental liposculpture is a procedure to remove a small fat pad underneath your chin. It’s not ideal for patients who are significantly obese but is better designed for patients who are of a healthy weight range and still have concerns about the contour under their chin..

Dr Mooney will first begin the consultation process by assessing your full medical history.
This is followed by a cosmetic assessment, taking into consideration your other features, nationality, gender. age and previous treatments the patient may have undergone. 2D high resolution images are used to plan a new jawline for you.

Removing the fat pocket can give a refined appearance to the chin and jawline. As well as potentially providing an improved contour, it may be an anti-aging procedure as this fat deposit tends to increase with age.

THE PROCEDURE

Submental liposculpture is performed in Dr William Mooney’s clinic or in a hospital setting as a standalone procedure or as a part of other surgical procedures.
Dr Mooney will begin the procedure by infusing adrenalin and local anaesthetic to decrease bruising and bleeding during the procedure. Usually, one entry port underneath the chin, 2mm across is sufficient for access. Sometimes, ports may be required behind each ear for an extensive reduction.

The fat is broken down and sucked out until we have achieved a pleasing contour.
The procedure can take about one hour and can cause minor bruising and swelling, this resolves in a couple of days.

Submental liposculpture should only performed by a dedicated surgeon because the neck is a super highway of structure that need to be avoided during this procedure.
