The Patient Experience
When considering rhinoplasty surgery in Sydney it can be a daunting task when selecting which surgeon is right for you. So we’ve done the hard work for you and listed all of the reasons why Dr. William Mooney is your man. First and foremost – Dr. Mooney performs the highest number of rhinoplasty procedures across the whole of Australasia, so we can assure you that you are in the best hands possible. Dr Mooney prides himself on his amazing portfolio of happy patients. His excellent results are a combination of pre-operative preparation, excellent surgical techniques, extensive post-operative care and realistic expectations. Dr. Mooney also has with him a friendly and sincere team of qualified professionals who offer all patients a unique and individualised service. Dr. Mooney and his team truly care about each and every patient, their journey, and ultimately – their final result.
At your initial consultation you will meet with one of our Registered Nurses who will take some professional head shots of you. You will then see Dr. Mooney to discuss your wishes for surgery. He will alter your images to give you an idea of what you will look like post surgery. These images are then given to you to take home and ponder.
Undertaking surgery is a very important decision and that some patients may request an additional follow up appointment after their initial consultation – prior to scheduling a surgery date. Therefore, we offer a complimentary follow up with Dr. Mooney in order to further discuss imaging or any other concerns that you may have if you are still unsure about whether to proceed.
The next step, will be a pre-operative appointment with one of our Registered Nurses who will go through all of the pre and post-operative information with you in person. They will also provide you with your medications for surgery, and will explain how to use them. You will have the opportunity to ask as many questions as you need at this appointment. You will also see Dr. Mooney at this appointment to confirm your imaging and desired result, as well as being able to discuss any final points about your surgery. Dr. Mooney and his highly trained team of health professionals will be monitoring you closely after your procedure. You will have an appointment with us every week after your procedure for one month.
At your first post-operative appointment your nurse will begin by removing your cast and internal splints. Importantly, you will also be shown lymphatic massage techniques which you will complete yourself at home. The massages are extremely beneficial for a faster recovery as they reduce swelling in the face and nose. Dr Mooney will see you at the end of the appointment.
At your second post-operative appointment your nurse will carefully remove the sutures from your incision line before showing you some additional massages that will help to reduce swelling around the tip. Dr Mooney chooses removable stitches as this favours wound healing and decreases scar visibility. As a result of the general anaesthetic drugs and inability to wash your face thoroughly in week one; the skin can sometimes break out or become rough and uneven, especially on the nose. Therefore, at week three you will receive a relaxing enzyme facial which will help to rehydrate the skin and remove any dry, flaky and uneven patches. At week four you will have a follow up appointment with Dr Mooney to check on your progress.
Rhinoplasty is a complex and delicate process with individuals varying considerably in terms of healing after the surgery, due to lifestyle, occupation, age, skin type, health factors and complexity of surgery.
We also have a newly launched Client Portal on the Dr. Mooney website that features: rhinoplasty journey videos from past patients, frequently asked questions, post-operative appointment videos, and instructional videos covering medications and lymphatic drainage massage.
We also offer a mobile phone service if you are experiencing any concerns after your surgery. You will speak directly to one of our Registered Nurse who will provide you with a solution.
